A New Outdoor "English Station," at SK Batu Jong

"View of the English Station"
SK Batu Jong   has an ongoing beautification project, which has enhanced the schools reputation, locally as a school which is creating a natural learning environment in a very positive way.

The vision of the school's beautification project is  to continue to enhance the space the school has, creating outdoor areas for the children, overcoming the natural limitation of  being  placed on a hill, and surrounded by a large rubber plantation.

This project has led to a team of English teachers, and school staff to recently turn  a drab, school footpath and wall into into a scenic spot were students can  play, relax, and study outside the classroom,.

The English Station
The “English Station, is next to an open area with palm trees, and a miniature garden with locally grown medicinal plants  created by the Science department. After the recent Hari Merdeka celebration, three doves representing the harmony, and peace of Malaysia,  reside next to this garden. The complete area is representative of  the beauty of the local environment, and the living culture of the area.

Locally Grown Medicinal Plants
The task for the teachers was to create an area, that blends in, and attracts the students to use the  area,, with a very limited budget.

Posters were taken from the existing English  Room, whilst benches were placed near the wall, and a collection of one page reading materials printed, and laminated by the teachers. A Hop Scotch area, was created using plastic tape. The area now is ready for students, and  teachers to use, with more improvements planned for the future.

The team of teachers who created the “English Station,” remarked that this was only one part of an ongoing school project, which they, and their students hope could help other schools, turn a drab space, into an exciting outdoor area, by using existing school resources.
